Angle Cut Bolivian Rosewood

As I mentioned before, I found a nice board of Bolivian Rosewood at my local Woodcraft the other day. It had some nice grain, and quite a few twisty grain patterns. I angle cut out about 15 blanks from just a small portion of it. They turn very well, and have a nice grain, that you often don't see in rosewood. Here is a photo of a cigar turned from it. Woodturner's finish and a light buff with white diamond.

Wow, that looks a lot nicer than most of the Rosewood I've seen. Nice job on the pen, too!

Thanks Jim. I couldn't pass up the board. It was 2.5 board feet and cost about 25 bucks, but I can easily make a ton of extra long 1/4 sawn blanks out of it. Bye the way it is a full 4/4 (1 inch thick).

It is a nice looking pen but I don't the the "Cut" is QSawn.
The wood looks as though it was Q sawn to begin with but I believe you cut the blanks on the bias or diagonal.
Nice pen regardless.
Russ has a diagram on his site that describes cutting blanks just as you did to get the best looking blank rather than the most blanks from a piece of wood.
That is why I choose to cut my own blanks.

Thanks for the clarification. I think a better term would have been angle cut. I used the term incorrectly.
