Preston; Anegre or Aningeria from the family Sapotaceae is an African hardwood also found in Tanzania. Also called angre', aninguerie, anieg're, landosan, muna, osan, mukali, and kali. Heartwood is generally straight grain and is cream to tan colored with a touch of pink. Can have wavy grain producing a mottled figure. Often quartered to show growthring figure. Wood smells with a cedar-like scent, is lustrous, and siliccous. Will blunt tools because of the silica content, and will chip out if not well supported. Mainly used for plywood corestock, utility plywood, and light construction. Also used in high-class joinery for furniture and cabinetwork because once dried, it moves very little. Depending on how you cut it, you could have some very interesting quilted grain and figure equal to quarter sawn oak. Use sharp tools to turn. If the price is right, go for it !! It burns slow and hot if nothing else. Jim S
