an you identfy this wood

I was given a piece of wood and not sure what it is. When I cut it the aroma was not unpleasent did not seem anything I could identfy. Can you tell me what I have?

The pictures are a little small William. My guess is that it is some kind of Juniper/Cedar. Like the ones planted in yards for decoration.

Pete on my computer you can enlarge by clicking on the plus sign at the bottom. I am thinking it was not cedar because that has a distinct aroma.

Just a guess, cottonwood that I have worked on looks alot like the first picture.
That would seem appropriate for where you live as well.
