How much wood (length) do you need to make Polaris pen? I have some nice shorter blanks (4-1/2" to 2-1/2") that I usually considered half blanks, maybe some can still be used on their own .

The tube is 3/8 OD or drill bit and calls for a 3.5" blank but the tube is more like 2-3/4" I don't have a unmade kit to ckeck for an exatct mesurement

What is your procedure for recessing the clip? Have you modified a barrel trimmer or do you do it on the lathe?

no modificaiton needed. I noticed the stanserd barrel trimmer was jest the size needed for the polaris clip. I think it gives the pen a more finished look.
