Just a couple of things for those interested.
I was checking out e-bay for Amber Jewelry and ran across someone selling rather large pieces of amber for very reasonable prices! Some of these pieces are are 4" high and they all seem to have some sort of insect in them. Most of the pieces are from $12.00 to $15.00!
I was thinking that some one who makes bottle stoppers would find these pieces useful and could make some killer amber bottle stoppers. 825 CT! BALTIC AMBER DISPLAY GEMSTONE; 4" | eBay I am not sure if I posted that right so just go to e-bay and type in amber. The persons name is (Joyeocg)
I have posted a photo of one of the pieces.

The other thing is The Chicago Wood Turners is having their Symposium August 3-5 near Chicago. It is named Turn On Chicago. For those who cannot go as far as California this should be fun. check out the web site for details.

I a huge fame of combining wood and natural minerals.
I took a look at the eBay posting and found it very interesting are well preserved these insects were. Along with the fact that they resemble modern day insects, after looking at every piece I read the entire listing slowly...after the "Genuine Baltic Amber" it also list "or natural plastic from pine trees"
I think the pieces look really cool, but the whole plastic thing turned me off...
I guess I will take a look for some natural genuine Amber - and of course pay more for pieces I like, but I like genuine.
Thanks for sharing

I guess I did not read the entire add. I was wondering how he got so much Amber!
Thanks for the input.

Two other things you have to be aware of is a subfossil called Copal it isn't as old as the true amber, it to has insects in it. And it is often sold as amber.
The other is the fake amber that is made with modern rosin like the bull riders rosin they use on their ropes and gloves, for the stick/gripe. You can melt the rosin to liquid and pour and add your own insects, let harden.
You really have to know who you are dealing with when buying amber.
