I've just completed one of Curtis' prickly pear blanks and I'm having trouble with the finish.
I have did a CA finish and I have sanded that down and refinished just to the alumilite.
I'm using Mcquires (sp) friction as the last step. The problem is in the friction part. Most of the blank comes out with a really nice luster, however, it seems to have those dull bands at a couple places. They just won't finish out. If it were just over the alumilite I'd think it was the heat, however, it comes out the same way over the CA finish. I don't understand why!
Any thot's?

Addedum:
Just redid the blank and it came out just like I thot it should. Me thinks the problem I was having is that today in Houston it is a bit warmer than it has been and I think I was rushing the CA setting up properly. And, the friction is Mylands, not McQuires.
Thanks for any thot's or coming comments.

You really don't need to add any finish. All the CA needs to do is seal the cactus that comes up through the Alumilite. Then you should be able to polish it up with Micro Mesh. At least that is my understanding.
