My Alumilite order was waiting for me on the doorstep tonight.

I decided to do a test cast using 4 oz. of Alumilite. 2 oz. colored black and 2 oz. colored turquoise. I got out 4 cups, 2 for part A and 2 for part B. I also decided it would be smart to label my A and B caps so as not to mix them up.

After mixing in the colors to the part A I set my timer for 4 minutes and added the first part B to the now black part A. I mixed for 45 seconds to a minute and poured some into two molds. I quickly poured my second part B to the now turquoise part and and repeted the mix/pour. I popped the mold into my pressure pot and pressurized up to 60 PSI... all under 4 minutes. I ended up with 3 blanks total.

Initial impressions:
- Alumilite is much thinner than PR. To me this made it easer to pour, measure and mix.

- While there is a smell, it is very faint and not unplesant at all like PR

- You have to have all of your ducks in a row before you start mixing this stuff!

Tomorrow night I am going to try clear casting some labels in it. I will post the results.

90 minutes later I have three nice looking

I have seen the (Alumi)light!!! The labels came out mixed; one was good but the other was surrounded by air/bubbles. Both tubes were in the same mold. I didn't notice air around it when I poured. I cast at approx. 40 psi. I didn't get any resin in my tubes, so next time I am going to push the pressure to 60 psi.

Even though there was air in the cast I decided to turn the blank just to see how Alumilite turns...OMG!!! This stuff is GREAT!! If I can work through the air issues I will become a devout Alumilite user.

I don't know if any of the other label casters are keeping an eye on this thread. If you are I want to report that the Alumilite sets fast enough to seem to eliminate the label saturation problem. I am going to continue casting and let you all know the results.

Hum...

You can even see the Alumi-light when you're wearing sunglasses... [:D] Card carrying member of the A.B.A. (Alumilite Believers Association) [8D] Psst... Don't tell them about our secret ABA handshake. [;)]
