Alternative Ivory

I have some coloring (dye) on alternative ivory I want to protect. Will a coat of lacquer work on ivory?
If I friction coat a wood blank with lacquer (Deft), how long will it take to be ready to buff out?

If it's an acrylic blank, CA should work. You'll need to see if the finish reacts to the paint though.
