Had a problem with accelerator the first few times I tried it. Getting the broken glass look. I work in a pretty cold and wet basement so it takes a bit longer for CA to dry.

My new solution:
Finish 3-4 pens at a time. Put one on the lathe, CA coat. Put aside and do the next and then the next. By the time you have put your coat on pen 3, the first one is dry.

My approach is to have two lathes side-by-side, one for turning, one for finishing. I apply CA, (Thin), 3 coats with little waiting, then go to work on the turning lathe, returning (no pun) to the finishing lathe after a while to apply another 3 coats. Rarely use accelerator.

I'm thinking about going this route myself. Been thinking about getting a cheap metal lathe to double for this purpose.

Where do you get a "Cheap" metal lathe?

Ha ha! Probably no such thing. Been watching Craig's list but no luck so far. May have to spring for the low end Harbor Freight lathe.
