I believe that today was actually the first time turning this material for me. My question is, is there any downside to NOT putting a finish on this material after sanding? I love the natural feel of it, but don't know how it reacts over time, either to natural oils or just general coloring/cleanliness. Would I be better off using a polish before I assemble it or will this hold up well with no finish?
Thanks

Rob,

I treat it like any acrylic--buff, but no finish.

When Dawn was making the Taj series, I tried a number of ways to seal in her graphics, including putting a CA finish on it. About a month later, the CA seemed to be "eating" some portions of the Alt ivory. That was the LAST time I have done that.

YMMV, it may have been the added layers that caused problems.--DUNNO

I have two of the Alternative Ivory fountain pens that are nearly 2 years old, both have been in my pen rotation and look as good as new, no finish other than wet sanded to 2000 then buffed and a coat of Renwax.
