I stopped in a pharmacy in a town half an hour north of me the other day. Anyway, I went to the counter and told the guy there who I was and what I was looking to pick up, since this was my first time in this particular store. So the guy goes back to look for it, and one of the pharmacists, who'd been close enough to overhear, asks "are you Dr. Boykin?", to which I rather suspiciously gave a questioning "yes" reply, trying to figure out if he's someone I'm supposed to know. Then he asks "the one who makes the really nice pens?" to which I again gave a suspicious and questioning "yes?" reply.
Well it turns out his wife was a student at my hospital last fall semester and I gave her a pen when she left, b/c she'd done such a wonderful job for us. So he starts telling me what a nice pen it is and how she uses it all the time. Anyway, it was kind of nice to be recognized. I certainly wasn't expecting it, so I was admittedly kind of suspicious about who the heck this person was at first! (kind of like when I first moved to rural NE and the lady from the welcome wagon came to my house and I thought it must be some kind of scam, didn't think those things existed anymore) This was certainly a nicer thing than some possibilitites to be recognized for!
