I'm doing part of the daily trivia. Don't know what days yet, I've been waiting on Al to pick his days. Randy has the first 10 or 11, can't remember which.

Hi Jeff!

I am doing the Ugly Pen Contest, set up with multiple prizes and winners like last year. Andrew has said he would handle the Article contest.

I E-Mailed Ellis and he should be posting the definitive prize list soon, then we can see what we really have to work with and who gets what.

Scott.

Thanks Scott. Once we get that list from Ellis, I'll edit the first post in this topic to reflect those.

Do I have all the responsible people correct/complete?

Do we have rules/prize posts ready to go? Here a sample from last year. We should get these ready to go so they can be posted on the 1st. Once we get the prize list, we can get them finished, but I'd suggest that all coordinators get busy on the rules and submission stuff.

If we want email address for any sort of submissions or entries, I can create an alias in our domain and auto forward to one/more people.

The Ugly Pen Contest

This is not a serious contest, although in many ways it may resemble one. It is a contest for serious penturners to use to blow off some steam! Reading anything more into it can lead down that dark and dangerous path to madness!

There will be judges, though you won’t know who they are; and there will be prizes, though I haven’t determined what they might be as of yet! Foremost, this contest involves showing strange and disgusting things that somewhat resemble pens, so that we can all make rude comments to each other about them! And with that, the rules:

1) Your entry must be a pen, i.e. If you could bring yourself to handle it, it would theoretically write.

2) You may submit up to two entries, although I can’t imagine why you would want to admit to making this mistake more than once!

3) Entries are submitted by posting up to three images of the pen-like item, with or without accompanying story, in the special Ugly Pen Contest Entries Topic topic.

4) Anyone may post comments about the entries, although no fights will be allowed, as there are numerous other normal topics available for that!

5) Entries will be accepted until Midnight (The Witching Hour) Eastern time on the 28th of January. Winners will then be posted on the 31st of January. The judge’s decision will be final!

6) Prizes will be awarded in five categories:

a) Worst looking normal pen:</u> This is the category for those who tried to make a nice pen, but it turned out ugly!

b) Most technically advanced ugly pen:</u> This category is for those pens that look like they’re from the future, but are still ugly!

c) Most disgusting pen:</u> This is for those of you with the perverse sense of humor, but please, I don’t want to see a whole string of Ca-ca pens, and no human reproductive organ pens! Remember, this is a family site!

d) Most unusual material:</u> Inventive use of non-traditional materials is King in this category!

e) Just Butt Ugly Pen:</u> This is kind of the all-encompassing category for the entry that is truly just the ugliest around!

7) A single entry may win more than one prize, in other words, winning in one category does not disqualify the entry from winning in another category.

8) All entry images and comments become the property of the IAP, to use, or dispose of, as they wish. Yes, blackmail a few years from now is a definite possibility!

Now, lets start seeing some entries!

Mark Lynch is running the Liar's Club Contest. I think he's pretty much ready to go, except for the dividing of the prizes. I'll work on that part today.

That's everybody who is running a contest. But don't forget to mention Ellis Miller and Jim Thomas. Ellis has been keeping track of all the prizes and who donated them since we started almost a month ago. And Jim is going to take care of all the links to donors so you can put them on the front page. Both important jobs, and very responsible, so I wanted to mention them as well! And don't forget that Andrew is responsible for most of the prizes we have rounded up, and now he is taking care of the Article contest as well!

Sorry for not getting in touch with you guys before now. I have been a bit under the weather. I got back from Pittsburgh Tuesday night and have been down with the Flu ever since. As Scott said, I'm pretty much ready to go except for the division of the prizes.

I suspect Ellis is around. He's probably getting his family ready for Christmas. BTW, that's kind of what I was doing today - delivering presents to kids! Fun! :) But I did get the list in an Excel format from Ellis, and I'll try to get it up here, and send it to Jeff.

Hi guys, I am here. I have been very busy getting ready for Christmas. I have been putting in a new slate tile entry way in our house. My computer was giving me fits for about 10 days. I would get on the internet and it would lock up on me. As fast as the bug appeared, it disappered, at least for now. If anyone needs the prize list I can send it to you in either pdf or on a excel sheet.
Scott, if you want me to send it to anyone let me know. I will check the e-mails several times today.
And a very Merry Christmas to one and all.
Ellis

Looks great, thanks for entering that list. Now, how about some how or other we divide it up?

Scott, what if you took a whack at allocating the prizes to each contest, then the contest coordinators can horse trade a little if necessary. I don't want to get too complicated with this, as it's getting close to Jan 1. So, Scott, have at it!</u>

For the donation, drawing, I'd like one of each of the tools.

Henry Taylor Diamond Parting Tool Craft Supplies
3/8" Henry Taylor Spindle Gouge Craft Supplies
3/8" Henry Taylor Kyro Spindle Gouge Craft Supplies

Thanks everyone for your hard work on this.

Merry Christmas! -- Jeff

Hi Scott - the $100 gift certificate's from William Wood-write (penblanks.ca)

THe lathe might be best suited for the donation draw too, I'd imagine...

Otherwise, looks good (but I didn't look through in GREAT detail..I'll check it again when it's NOT Christmas eve! :))

Before we can divide the prizes, we need to know the number of categories and winners for each contest.

We need to get this wrapped up!

Let's try this... can the head coordinator for each contest please post below this, what the categories and prizes are for your contest. (i.e. just 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or categories like last years ugly pen which had about 7 I think)

Then I will divide up the prizes as needed and post above.

We also need to get the rules set up for each contest!

THANKS!

I have been looking over the prize list, and there are things I am uncertain of. First of all, I know I got four $25 gift certificates from Craft Supplies that are not listed.

Were there two sets of blanks from exoticwo or three? Were there two, three or four prizes from MesquiteMan? Did Ernie really donate that many $20 gift certificates?

Almost all of these prizes are from vendors, only a few from individuals. Last year we had fun getting donations of pen-blanks bundles from individuals and giving them away as additional prizes in the Daily Trivia contest. Should we do that again this year?

I get a count of around 95 prizes so far, depending on if the list is fairly accurate. This gives us plenty of prizes, so lets give some of these things away!

Jeff, I agree that the lathe from Grizzly should be in the donation raffle. The three tools you want from Craft Supplies, are you going to do them as one prize, or three?

For the Ugly Pen Contest I could give fifteen prizes. Bob has spoken for the six prizes from Ernie. That leaves over seventy prizes! We could do two from this list each day of the Trivia, which is 62 prizes, for a total of 83. But if we can give them away in the other contests, we could drop the Trivia down to one a day, which is 31 prizes. Jump in and say what you need!

Scott.

Hi Andrew!

Thanks for checking this! I looked and didn't see the stuff from Ruth on the list. When you have time please check and see if we missed anything else.

OK, I have been looking at the list a little more carefully. I see Ruth's donation there. So far I count about 95 prizes. Not bad! As far as how many prizes for each contest, I have the following:

The Ugly Pen Contest - 15 prizes
The Pen and Penturner Contest - 6 prizes
The Daily Trivia Contest - 31 prizes (or 62 at two per day)
The Liar's Club Contest - 3 prizes
The Best Featured Pen Contest - 3 prizes
The Article Contest - 6 prizes
The Penmaker's Challenge - 12 prizes

This is a total of 79 prizes (or 110 if we do two a day for the Trivia).

If we do the Best Signature Contest, that would be 6 more prizes, so either 85 or 116.

Does this sound right???

We can drum up some more prizes if need be. I am still waiting on Klingspor, who said they would donate, but haven't gotten back to me. I would like to give at least two prizes a day for the Trivia. If everybody is good with the numbers above, I will divide up the prizes tomorrow. LET ME KNOW!

Thanks!

Scott.

Sounds good to me.
Hey Scott, put me down for a box of blanks as a prize. I have quite a mixture and some that just came in from my wifes aunt in Texas.

Scott, I was thinking only 1st and 2nd for the pen makers challenge, that will free up 4 prizes. When you get them straightened out please let me know what they are.
Thanks,

Scott - were you going to divide up the prizes? I think I saw you mention that in another post.

Then I'll post your list in the first post above and we'll have our master list.

Thanks!

OK all, prizes are posted in the first post in this topic!

So, now you can all post your contest rules and prize lists in the main bash forum.

Thanks to Scott for dividing up the big list!

Scott: The Trivia Contest Prize List is only complete thru Jan 4 and I will be awarding those prizes tomorrow. Hate to be a nag; but this list needs to have at least a few more entries to get me through the weekend. Thanks.

This is the listing for 4 Jan:

January 4th
Prize One - 2A kit, 8" mandrel, 3 delrin bushings, lock collar and hex key Jcollazo
Prize Two - delrin strips 1-1"X4"X.01", 1-4"X4"X.01" Jcollazo

Anybody know what a 2A kit is??

I managed to figure out what a 2A kit is:

http://www.turncrafts.com/finbushings.html;

but now I have a different question. A 2A kit consists of four "A" mandrels, 12 Delrin bushings, 4 lock collars, set screws and a hex wrench. Did Joe donate four kits or did he donate one kit that is being broken up into four prizes or did he only donate 1A kits? I don't know exactly what is going on here; but there is some sort of inconsistency with the prize description.

Hi Randy,

I really don't know. This is what he said in his E-Mail:

"Anyway, I'd like to donate 4 of my 2A Kits. These consist of an 8" A mandrel, 3 delrin bushings, lock collar and hex key. These normally run $10 each. Also, I'll throw in three 2-packs of delrin strips (1-1"x4"x.01" and#65533;1-4"x4"x.01"). That's 7 gifts total."

I think that clears it up, Scott. It must be a typo. $10 is the list price of a "1A" kit and the description of included parts matches what is in a "1A" kit.

Thanks.

Scott - one of your prizes has changed...the ugly pen contest one from Ruth Niles. She had to send the items out quite recently, and could not wait for the contest to start, so that's why you had not received them yet...this is the email she just sent me:

Andrew, I just sent Scott 3 threaded stoppers and 3 smooth stoppers. Sorry I couldn't donate more, it is more than a hat. : )

I have just updated the master list of prizes at the first of this topic. Jeff, the only thing I didn't update was the prizes for the Donation Drawing.
