Hello fellow turners
Just thought id check in as ive not been on here in a wee while. Crafting pens can be pretty seasonal for me. Usually spring and autumn due to other passions in life taking up the other seasons.
As I type this im currently rocking all over the place on the deck of a boat im currently living on in the north sea, diving the wrecks of a scuttled german fleet of ships off the coast of scotland from world war 2.
Had more equipment failures in the last couple of days then I care to remember. Ranging from my valve free flowing on my drysuit making me inflate like a puffa fish... not good at 40 meters deep lol. Clung on to the wreck to resolve the situation.
On another dive my drysuit dump valve wouldnt close at 25m and hole appeared in the bladder if my bcd... needless to say I sunk like a stone nearly having to ditch my weight belt fearing a trip to a decompression chamber for the bends... I managed to take the hand of my dive buddy to tow me back up to surface in a controlled manner. For those who dont dive, when you come up from depth you have to slowly to allow the nitrogen in yiur blood to dissipate... too quick and your blood will foam in your veins. When your at 5meters yiy stay there for a few minutes as a safety stop to allow the nitrogen to dispurse.. before then carrying on to surface.... doing that with no boyancy control is hell.
30mph wind causing waves leaving you unable to see the boat when you surface between wave peaks....
Oooo and I saved a life on Sunday when a diver had a heart attack at 5 meters... I got him to the surface and inflated everything I had to keep him afloat... keeping his regulator in his mouth. My dive buddy signalled for the boat to come pick us up where we got him on oxygen until we got him back to land and in an ambulance... was a chilling time as he drifted into unconsciousness a few times. A few slaps sorted that out.
I now know why scappa flow is one of the toughest dive sites in the world. Some strong currents here, and very unforgiving.
The guns on the ships and the aquatic life is fantastic though. Off to explore a battleship in 4 hours. Cant wait. .
Terryf not forgotten about your pen my friend
its on my list of things to do when back on land
Happy turning
Cheers for now
Brad
