End of July we put our house on the market and, decided to move back to Indy. In five days we got an offer for our asking price. It has been a long process due to buyers financing and, issues out of our control. Anyway, we have a closing date of Monday Dec. 2nd.

Bitter/sweet move for us. Leaving good friends here but, reuniting with friends AND, family there. It's been a great three years here but, I miss the snow :biggrin:

Chuck, isn't the standard practice to go south when the snow flies and north when it warms back up?

I hope all goes smoothly with the move back Chuck. They say that moving is one of the most stressful times in your life. I dunno about that, I find it more exciting than stressful. :)
My better half and I counted how many times we've moved since being together, 13 times in 26 years.!!!!

Now that our kids have grown up, I reckon we've got one more final move left. :)

Good luck and with luck you will be fully settled in by Christmas...:)

Derek, it is for those with deep pockets:biggrin: Ideally we would keep both homes and, become snowbirds. Maybe when I get my line of high end pens in circulation:biggrin: But, not until then:redface:

Thanks Steve. It started out VERY exciting when, we got the offer. Then gradually became very stressful. But, don't think I could do this 13 times. Yes, we'll be in front of the fireplace come Christmas.

Welcome back to the Hooiser State, you were probably still Hooiser at heart anyway. You sure picked a bad time (COLD) to move back. YOu should try and push them off until April.... We had some of our first snow earlier this week, and I am in southern Indiana, I am sure Indy got a lot more.

Sounds a little like my first marriage... in 7 years together we moved 5 times together and if you count me moving in and both of us moving out.. 8 times... seemed like whenever the house would get dirty, we just moved... it was easier than house cleaning....:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::laugh::laugh:

Current wife and I have been together 21+ years and have only moved 9 times... when we moved in here, I felt like nailing the furniture to the floor... and we have decided the next move will be either to the nursing home or the funeral home.

"Half Backs" I think you just coined a new term

Chuck, isn't the standard practice to go south when the snow flies and north when it warms back up?

Around here I think the practice is for the northerns move south out of the snow, then to move half way back to Tennessee... we have a lot of "half backs" in my neighborhood.

Chuck I think you just coined a new term "Half Backs", that rates right up there with "snowbirds" "condo camando" etc. we'll have to see how long it takes to get into Websters....

Wish I could take credit...it's pretty common term around my neighborhood.

"It's been a great three years here but, I miss the snow"

Do you really miss the snow, or have you just forgotten what snow is like?

Paint a really big sign for yourself that says "I missed the snow". Hang it over the snow blower / shovel in your new place. That should give you something to think about as you deal with those late season seemingly never ending dumps of snow.

Good luck with your move. I hope it all goes well and you get a good weather window. And make the most of your current fondness for the white stuff this winter. Next year you may be choosing different words than "missed" to precede "snow" in a sentence. I know I would.

Ed

Thanks a lot Ed! I'm trying to stay positive here  But, we know you're right. The good part is, I don't HAVE to drive to work in it anymore  Snow blower is on my list

Call me if you need some help! Weather will be mid 40's until the weekend. Tell Susanne to take it easy on you. I know she's ready to get back home :)

Will do Ernie. Susanne is amazing when it comes to packing. I just stay out of her way pretty much:biggrin: We're both anxious to see our family and, friends.
Good luck Chuck! Hope the move goes smoother than the closing has!

Get that shop setup... I want to see that pen!!:cool:
Thanks Fred. My challenge will be setting up shop. Don't want to use a bedroom or, the garage. Only 7' between the house and, property line. So, may have to build a shed in the backyard. Looking forward to making that pen ASAP!

Needless to say, when Chuck told me he was moving back I had mixed feelings. If that's what he wanted to do, then I was happy for him. But I'm going to miss him. We've had some pretty good times I think and I'm going to miss our get togethers. I wish you could at least do the snowbird thing too.

The feelings are mutual Mike. Gonna miss Trooper too. Maybe a future vacation in order.

If, when you get where your going your met by an old hag with a crooked hat. a pointy nose, bright green complexion and she cackles "welcome my pretty" you may have made a wrong turn.:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

LOL...once I get to 65 I'll be ok. No turns and, it runs right behind our new house.:biggrin:

Looks like you have 12 inches of snow to look forward to!! Florida sounds real nice right now.

Looks like Chuck picked a bad time to move. I am about 2 hours south of Indy and we got 1/2" of ice last night and it hasn't stopped snowing since early this morning. It is about 6-8" right now and supposed to snow until midnight maybe a total of 12".

Mike

Safe Journey my friend.
Thanks Mike. We made it in Thursday evening about 8:30 Had plenty of hairy moments, I swear, there should be a shut-off device on vehicles. Lots of nuts on the road. Took the long way over to I-65 to avoid the mountains in TN only to encounter dense fog in nearly the entire state of Alabama. It started clearing around Huntsville. LONG trip.

Ernie, we got about half of that but, I had to clear the driveway twice. Made it real tough after that truck packed it down.:frown: Yes, it was 78 when we left FL. Good to be back with family though.

Mike we just did beat that mess. I just threw another log on the fire and, it looks real nice and, feels better:biggrin:

I moved to Indiana for a year. 25 years ago. And still haven't managed to leave. Welcome back!
Thanks Reid! I'm not mad at you for staying in Indy another 24 years.

Chuck, now that you've been home for a few hours get your butt to work in the shop, no use letting you get rusty:biggrin::rolleyes:

Welcome home mate, keep warm:smile:
Thank you Fred. Got a fire burning now.

Roy, I think I'll have to set up temporarily in the garage. I'll have to wait till the snow melts for a shed.:frown:

Chuck, glad to hear you made it safe and before the storm. I suppose you will be starting a thread now on what is the best heater for a shop....
Thanks Mike. That's a subject that appears every Fall season. Don't think I'll start another one. I WILL go take a look though. See what's best. I do know the 1500 watt heaters are too weak for me.

2 -55 gal drums layed flat with 6in stove pipe conecting them. One on top one on bottom. bottom one is the fire box (add legs cut in a door to load wood) top one is the heat radiator. and the stove pipe runs from it out the top of the shed/garage.

I hope the move goes well and please let us know when you are here and settled, we need to have a meeting to catch up. Missed seeing you friend.
WB

Hey Chuck, Miss anything yet?

It went well Bill. Far from settled in though. My shop is in boxes
setting on the garage floor and, likely to be there for weeks.:frown: But, I can go to meetings, no problem.
