My mandrel shaft needs to be replaced and for the life of me, I cannot figure out where I bought it.

Will any adjustable mandrel shaft work, or do I need to buy one of each and figure this out the expensive way?

I have a friend coming into town next weekend and we'll be turning all weekend and I want to make sure I get this purchased asap.

Help!

Any mandrel shaft should work. They are only adjustable because of the arbor that holds it, not because the mandrel itself is special. Actually, I make my own mandrels using letter D drill rod cut to length and threaded for the brass nut. Using a mandrel saver and no threadng is needed. Buy a mandrel and have fun with your friend.

I see PSI sells replacements, but they're awfully slow to ship and I'll never get it in time. Then there's the local Rockler store here in Houston, who hasn't a clue as to how to actually keep stock of most anything pen-related except ugly blanks they can't give away.

Where can I buy one that has fast shipping?

You have a woodcraft in Houston (somewhere). Surely you could find some letter D drill rod in Houston if you're interested in making your own mandrels. Otherwise, for fash shipping I would recommend any of the IAP vendors who sell mandrels. Their websites are easily accessable from the homepage birthday bash vendor list. Several IAP vendors sell mandrels.
