Can the finish change that much by switching brands of CA? I started learning the technique with cheap superglue gel from Lowes. I ran out and my next pen I switched to the thick CA from Craft Supplies. And now my pen looks like crap. I followed the same method with both types of CA. Is the better stuff not that good to use? The problem I'm having is scratches and a white haze that I didn't get with my old CA and it seems a lot thicker of a finish. Thanks for the advice.

I get mine from Monty, it is a good glue and he has it cheaper than you i have found any place else. This is the only CA I have used for finish so can't answer you queston. The white haze could be from water or the glue is not sticking for some reason.

I use medium from Monty (and Ernie before he quit selling it), the green label bottle for best results.

I tried using medium-thick stuff from Bill, but it doesn't set up very well.

If I need a quick thin coat I just use the cheapy tube stuff from Walmart. It sets really fast and shines up nice.
