Today was a great day, I had the opportunity to go to the Arsenal woodshop today along with a couple of friends. There is a project going on called a turn a thon for the troops. It is a great thing. I got to help assemble the pens after they were turned. I look forward to the next opportunity to do this again. If you have the opportunity to get in with helping out with this project, it will be a blessing to you.

I've helped out the last two years here in Denver at Woodcrafters. It is rewarding to see someone who has never touched a lathe come in and complete a pen and write the note to the troops with the freshly turned pen. They light up the room with thier smile. I agree if you get the chance please help them out. Our troops (Men and Women) deserve our respect regardless if we believe in the politics that sent them there.

I must second the response by Keith and Edward. I was with Keith todat At Redstone Arsenal Alabama Craft shop today to help turn the pens for Service Members curently Deployed. In my years of service I was always support by shops like the one we visited today and for the person that has nerver served or had a chance to visit an Post/Installation you need to visit. Your tax dollars are well spent for recreation for our troops around the world. I have used these type shops around the world from Private to Sergeant Major and have made many items for the house and presents to family. Today we had at least 10 Lathes running and people were gluing, trimming, cutting, assembleing, and packaging for shipment around the world. The last count I heard was over 250 pens for today and that was fantastic! Look forward to next months meeting to meet with fellow turners and support our troops. We can always use more help, so if interested and in the Alabama area PM me and I'll see what I can do. There are ID restrictions but we'll see what we can do for escorts while on Post. Thanks to all who support this endeavor.
