I am totally unhappy with the choice of programming with our local cable company and everytime I click on the local weather link on my computer, a little pop up ad for Netflix comes up.

Curiosity finally got the best of me and I did some checking and it seems they offer a fair amount of movies and shows via the internet for only $8 per month.

The problem is that I don't have any of the devices required to obtain their "direct streaming" but could buy one if need be.

My question: Does anyone use Netflix through the internet via the Wii, xbox 360 or other gaming controllers or blue ray players, and if so, are you happy with the download speed and reliability. I have no desire to use their mail service where you have dvd's mailed to the house.

A guy I work with uses his Wii and claims he likes it. I haven't seen it personally. He did say that the newer stuff isn't available as soon as renting or buying. Takes a while for the new stuff.
Just going by what he was telling me.
 
Who has time to watch movies? Roy just went for the first time in 163 years and had sticker shock at the theater. I think the last thing he went to was a Samuel Clemons reading. :eek:

I watch Netflix through my computer. Had the dish shut off and used the DVD program for 2 years. They have a center near by and mine takes overnight to send the DVD back. Unless you want to watch on the TV, just use your computer.
 
i use the wii, speed will depend more on your internet connection,, ours is mostly good,, picture as good as broadcast, nitflix has a lot of tv shows my wife likes,,
 
Try www.hulu.com. They carry TV series new and old, and movies, mostly old. That's all free. Then for 7.99 you can get all the HD and streaming goodies. I don't have time for movies but it's nice to be able to watch TV shows when I have time to watch them! Comcast is doing its' best to put itself out of business.
 
Love netflix! ... Have used it on Wii, bluray player, apple tv, iphone and computer... (not all at the same time mind you)...

Lots of movies, many tv series, etc... just not the latest of anything movies take quite a while before streaming. (but I do have the dvd service.. for just $2 more a month, even if I only watch 2 dvds a month its worth it).

Theres no "download" time so to speak as it streams it. As long as you have a decent connection to the net (unlike Jeff's dial up connection!!!)

If you have specific things you're looking for... You can browse what they have available... Make sure to look that it says "streaming", cause not everything is on streaming.
 
I rarely have any hiccups streaming with netflix. I usually watch on my computer, but other family members stream through the PS3. We have even streamed 2 different programs simultaneously to two different rooms of the house.

Using the PS3 is a little funky becasue you have to use the game controller (works fine, but need to get used to it) - universal remotes dont work with the PS3.

With netflix, usually you only see past seasons, not current season programming. Hulu has current season programming for some shows (usually 1 week after airing). Hulu has free and paid versions. Check the availability on both for the shows you like.

With the netflix you can also get movie DVDs for things that dont stream

Personally, I use Netflix and the free hulu.

I signed up for it but dropped it possibly due to my provider. I have highspeed internet and cable TV, hooked up through a bluray player using my wireless network and couldn't watch a thing...connected ok but was stopping about every two minutes and downloading, then it would run for another two minutes and stop and download. Downloading to my computer is plenty fast and it would probably work there but wouldn't work on the TV. I think I'll wait for FIOS....I'd be upset but I don't watch movies (except old ones anyway)
 
I use it through the mail, streaming on my computer and through my Samsung BluRay app. It is dependant on a good high speed internet connection.
There is also and box you can get ... Roku HD starting at $59. I don't know details about that though ... www.roku.com/tryit
 
I watch Netflix through my BluRay player (wireless) and I am extremely happy with it. I guess it would depend on the speed of your internet connection. I have cable and it is a relatively fast cable.
 
I use a Sony BluRay player, a PS3, a home built HTPC, all on my TVs. I also use various laptops, PCs, etc. Depending on where I am...

It can be used on the iPhone and iPad IIRC, though I haven't tried it on either.

One thing to keep in mind is that Showtime is pulling out. What Netflix will replace their content with I have no idea.
 
My daughter and son in law use his X-box and they feed off of my wifi their trailer is about 75 feet from my modem and another 20 or so feet inside the place, and it works OK but that's a long way to send a wifi signal from a modem.
 
I use netflix through my ps3 over a wireless signal. It takes about 30secs or less to load any video. I only have a medium speed dsl too. We love it, but not everything is available online. Those bids we get with the 1 disc allowance but I think you can get up to 3 discs with an upgrade. I still say its totally worth it!
 
I use on most of my computers, and the kids wii, and it works great during the day. About 5:30 or 6 I start getting the pause to download issue, as everybody in the neighborhood gets home and starts tying up the bandwith on the local DSL loop. It starts getting better about 8 or 9 when the kids and old folks start going to bed. So even if your broadband is fine on average, it may not work when you want it too. But of course, if that's the case, just cancel it, no biggie.
 
I got rid of my cable and use my Xbox for netflix. I absolutely love it. It's very hard to beat for the price. And besides, cable just shows the same movies over and over.
 
Yeah, I dumped our cable too. We kept cable internet only. And just once did I have the pausing issue. Most of the time my BD player is running 15mb down. Occasionally it gets to 4mb down, still enough to stream HD content.

Cable TV has become a joke. There's the Chopper channel (Discovery) and the crappy horror flick channel (SciFi) etc...
