A partner for Abranet Roll purchase

Hey all,
I want to buy some 10 yard rolls of Abranet in the next few days. I'm looking for someone to split the rolls (and cost) with me because 10 yards would probably last me forever.:smile:

These would be 2.75" x 10 yd rolls in 80, 120, 180, 240 and 320

I have done some research and found these rolls for about $25-28 each. This works out to about $.83 per ft. By comparison, CSUSA sells Abranet in 2.75" x 5" sheets for about $1 per sheet. This works out to $2.40 per ft.

The total for 5 rolls with shipping comes to $140.

Is there anyone that wants to split this with me? Your cost would be $70 for five 5 yard rolls of Abranet in 80, 120, 180, 240 and 320 grits.

I am interested in 220 to 600 in case anyone else only wants those "grits" or you want to add those. Will go to 1/2 to 1/4 split.

I'm not sure about the higher grits yet. 400, 600 and 800 only come in 25 yard rolls and they are $60 each.

If there is enough interest, I may order 25 yard rolls of 80, 120, 180, 240, 320, 400 and 600.

I did the math at if 5 people go in on all 7 grits, the cost would be $124 each. Now this would be 4.5" wide rolls for 80, 120, 180 and 240 and 3.6" wide rolls for 320, 400 and 600. It's more expensive than the $70 of my previous post but it's also a wider roll.

What are you thoughts on the lesser grits? I go thru the lower grits more but others may use just the higher grits.

Mods, feel free to move this to the Group Buy area if needed:smile:
 
I like all of the grits above 150. For me, I prefer to use the Abranet to achieve a better final finish versus material removal - even though I still MM up to 4k to 12k. Since, I started using a skew, I have found to be less dependent on grits below 220. In fact, I am getting close to starting out 320 or 400. Didn't mean to hijack the post; I was just thinking about options. If I go forward I will organize under group buy. I didn't mean to compete with this (not that you are saying that I am which is very nice of you); I meant to complement it. :-)
 
No worries, Tony. Since most of my work is something other than pens, I use a fair amount of the lower grits. I would likely use the higher grits but it wold just take me longer to go thru them :)

I guess I wouldn't mind ordering more but I just want to make sure I can split the costs with others :)
 
sounds good. I just make pens. If you want a partner on the 320 to 600, I am in.
 
Sounds like Ed and Mark are both in for the wider Abranet rolls. I'm looking for 2 more people to go in on this. The cost would be about $124 plus shipping from me to you.

At this point I'm looking for people who want 5 yards each of all 7 grits. Others have also requested the higher grits but since I use mostly lower grits on my stuff (I make a few pens but mostly other items) I'm trying to keep things easy on my end.

Thanks for the quick response. I understand your limiting it to the grits that you will use the most since this is your group buy. Perhaps we can get a few of the others that are mainly interested in the higher grits to make a separate group purchase. Anyone interested???

I've got a pretty good handle on the skew for pens but it doesn't work so well on bowls or ornaments :smile: That's what I make most!

For bowls, I usually use sanding disks mounted in a right angle drill but the Abranet is great for sanding around the details and getting in tight spots when there is a lip involved. Much better than the sandpaper that comes in a roll :smile:
 
I just ordered 320, 400 and 600 to split. However, my "partner in purchase" may not want the 320. I can split the 320 with whomever wants it assuming my "partner in purchase" doesn't want it. Depending what all of this looks like, I may split my half again. That would be 2.5 yards by 4.5 inches., let me know. I should get all by the end of the week; they were out of the 400.
