I mentioned this, in passing, in another thread hidden way down at the bottom and thought I'd let the rest of you know the story. Last Christmas my Doctor discovered a small spot of lung cancer on my right lung. I am, now, undergoing radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Fortunately I had 101 days sick pay built up over the years. I am taking the rest of the semester (college professor) off on sick leave. At the end of the year I am officially retiring from the work force (a year earlier than planned). I will, then the therapies are done, devote full time to my shop turning and some flat work. Hopefully I can start really producing some products and getting back to the craft show circuit on a smaller basis than before. I just thought I'd let people know what is going on.

Happy that the cancer was found when it was small and treatable.
Glad you had the sick time to be able to do what your are doing.
Will be sending prayers that everything turns out right.

And will be looking forward to seeing you post some photos of your work.
Best wishes.

Sorry to hear about that spot on your lung. It seems like they found it early enough that there is a very good chance of successful treatment with the radiation and chemotherapy. We're all hoping that is the case.

As for the silver lining in this cloud, you'll eventually be able to spend more time in your shop, and we'll be able to see more of your work. That will be something to look forward to in due course.

In the meantime, GOOD LUCK, and remember that our thoughts are with you, Dan.

You will be in our prayers as you undergo your treatments. It is a blessing that it was caught in an early stage. It looks like you have a great, positive outlook on the future. Keep it up & keep us posted.

I'm sorry to hear that this is happening to you. It does sound that you are having a very good outcome and have lots of blessings (a good prognosis, sick days accumulated and the ability to retire early). Still sending lots of good energy your way! Time in the shop is good therapy too! Take care and be kind to yourself!

We will be praying for you. Prayer is very powerful and does wonderful things. My mother in law just beat breast cancer, my wife just had a lump removed from her lung we thought was cancerous but wasn't, lots of folks I know have beaten cancer recently. Keep a good spirit and it sounds like it was caught early enough that it is treatable and beatable. Enjoy the shop time when you get to it.

Sorry to hear of your trouble, but I am glad you are going to enjoy some time to yourself.
I too, look forward some more of your turnings! Please take care...
Mike
