Well this is it, today i signed my retirement paper.

December the 17th will be my last day of work after 31 years in the same place. Had tears in my eyes when i left the office tonight. The next 2 weeks will be just packing my personnal stuff and spending time saying goodby and having lunch with my friends.

So you might start to see more of my post in the future. A good camera is among my retirement gift to myself so picture will start to arrive :)

When i came home, there was a picture of a General International Maxi lathe VS on my desk. My wife secretly ordered it for me last week and we will pick it up saturday as my retirement gift from her. Ask me if i love this lady ! Weeee... 55 years old, a good healt (thanks the lord) a lot of shop time, a brand new lathe, nice turning days ahead.

Life is good

First of all congrats. Not too many people can say they have been at the same place for 31 years. The office's loss just might be IAP's gain. Congrats also on a special lady. I am really happy and envious of you.

Congratulations. Working at one job for 31 years says a lot about the type of man that you are. My longest job was 12 years, and my last one. You are a person to look up to for your great work ethics.

Congratulations Alfred,

I also retired two years ago at a similar age and felt the same way you do. It's difficult to leave a way of life you've experienced for such a long time. Even though I've had nostalgia for the "old" days, I find the last two years to be the best of my life. I'm busier now than I've ever been. It's just that now I'm busy doing the things I've always wanted to do rather than wishing I had the time to do them.

Congratulations Alfred on a job well accomplished. 31 years and never fired even once. Of course on my job, my number one aim when I go out the first day is to work myself out of a job. Here's hoping you have many years of satisfaction at your new full time job of retirement.

Congratulation Alfred 31 years at one job doesn't happen anymore. I retired 7 years ago after 38 years with one employer many different jobs all which I enjoyed. When my last day came I was ready, but walking out to the parking lot at 10am knowing I didn't have to return was a weired feeling. Next day got at the regular time, made coffee but got the paper turned on the news and relaxed. Best decision I ever made. Enjoy your new toy and time in the shop you have earned it. Don't be suprised if you don't have all the shop time you thought you would. I am busier now the when I was working but now it's my choice of what I do, and when I do it, and sometime how I do it.

Wow, congratulations... wish I could have retired at 55... I could have almost 15 years under my belt by now... I had to wait until 64 (a year early according to Social Security)... with 40 years in my industry.

Enjoy, it's worth the wait.

Congrads on the retirement. Congrads on the great wife. Congrads on a great toy. I have 3 years left to go and I too look forward to the day when I have that much shop time. I do not know how some people just keep working way past retirement time and they say they enjoy it. Being able to do whatever and whenever is freedom. You as well as all others that have retired and will retire soon have earned their time off. We have made our contribution to society. This is your time now. Use it wisely and above all enjoy and stay well. Look forward to seeing the things that come out of the shop soon.

Congrats on the retirement! As of last week I have exactly 25years to go till I can say goodbye to my job! As you can see I am already starting the countdown haha. Enjoy the new toy and look forward to seeing your work in the future.

Alfred; That is some little beauty of a lathe. I went between the Delta that everyone talks of and this GI Maxi. I couldn't make up my mind, until a gently used Oneway 1224 came into my life and solved my dilemma.

Show a picture here of your new lathe. I have a hunch there aren't many in the US that know about it.

You have some kind of woman there as well as some kind of lathe. Enjoy both!
