Such amazing impact! The wood has such a rich tone to it and the gree really pulls you in. Sweet

I bet that would sell real well in Roswell, NM. When I saw it Monday I had no idea that the green would be so bright. Looks much better finished. Great job.

I am very very impressed... cant say how impressed I am... might have to give that a go one day... ie later in life.. but that looks really awesome!

Beautiful pen Joe, beautiful execution.

I had never been a big fan of the banksia pod pens before, but NOW.....whew!

...wow, that one is really cool looking.

I'll bet if you cast some more like that you could sell them like hotcakes here on IAP. Just a thought.

WOW! Way kooool. How about casting one that glows in the dark? Then you could drag it out at night as you tell the kids ghost stories. Yea. Then watch them all crawl into bed with mom.
That is one very good looking pen. Great idea and execution.

Gee Dad,
Mike beat me to the posting and FreeThinker beat me to saying you should make some more and sell them on here ...
Now all I can say is WOW that really turned out fantastic - I'm axious to see how the one you gave us is going to look now :)

Love ya!

As a reply to ALL who offered your encouraging comments, THANKS! I've had a couple suggestions that I make some to resell, here. I'm not ready for that yet. I'm not sure what the long term satisfaction is going to be with this combination. I am beginning to feel that it should be cast immediately after casting, as one or two of the pieces I had left from this first cutting seem to be more curved than they were a couple days ago. Considering all the holes, this makes sense. The finished pen is beginning to show some dull spots in the CA finish. I think I'll hold onto it for a while, then hit a couple more coats of CA, to see if it's even a saleable item. What do Y[all think? Incidentally, if you want to try it, I used Castin'Craft PR from Michaels, Reverse painted inside of blank with Delta Ceramacoat "jubilee green" acrylic paint (probably got that a Michaels also). I used "Brass Ager" (available from Indy-Pen-Dance) to darken the tube, so If I scratched the paint when inserting the tube, it would not shine through, and at the same time give "0" size increase to the tube. The whole dang process from cutting to finishing is MESSY!!! :curse:

That looks awesome!

I just finished doing one with a red resin and it also turned out really well!
Gave the pen away before i took a picture of it...
Will try and borrow it back and take some pics.

The banksia turns really well and is a very hard, dense wood.
Finishes really well too!

Great job!
They are a lot of work but well worth the end result!

Andrew

That is a real beauty of a pen. It's very impressive. Nicely Done..
