The IAP should be renamed the International Association of GREAT PEOPLE.

I made a comment about how much I liked a pen that a member posted here and how much I admired the material from which the pen was made. This particular material was only made in Italy during the Great Depression and has since disappeared.

This particular member asked for my address. Today, I recieved a package that contained a stick of this material and two other sticks of high end materials that are equally difficult to come by.

This member had no way of knowing that I lost my job and now rely on pen making to support my family. Nor did he know that I now can only order materials as products sell.

This great jesture was made soley because the other member knew how much appreciate great workmanship and great "antique" materials.

The next time I decide to make a "Smart Alec" comment or post a reply that does not respect the feeling of the great membership here, I just hit the delete key instead.

I'd post the member's name, but this would only embarrass him.

Thanks IAP!

That is a great story Andy, I too had a similar experience where I commented on a members pen, a few hours later I had a message asking if I would like to swap. It too was a rare Italian material. This is why every time I too think about sounding off, or leave for a while I remember that there are more great people than the few bad apples.

I have no idea what material that is, but I bet it's beautiful. Nice story Andy, and kudos to the anonymous friend!

Good to hear about the RAKs... It reminds all of us to give when we can and appreciate those around us.

Great gesture indeed. Even without mentioning his name, I bet that I already know your "saint". Only thing bigger than his talent is his heart. Feels good to be part of this group.

Great jesture and it was admirable of you to acknowledge it. I have also met and conversed with some of the nicest -people on this forum. Everytime I post one of my "novice type" questions, I never have felt like I was some newbie that no one wanted to talk to. There are so many people on this site willing to share there talents, experiences, and sometimes their trade secrets.

I know there are other sites out there but I am always looking on this site because of the people and the professional way the site is put together and run.

I always knew that his talent was larger than life. Now, I know that his compassion is as large as his talent.

I do hope that when someone thinks of making a disparaging remark about another member, that they will stop and think about all of the selfless things that go on here.

Just saw this post and I just want to say that I think that like most communities there will always be some individual who are cranky or negative. My feelings about IAP are that it is like going to a meeting. "Take what you want, and leave the rest". If we don't engage in negative behavior ourselves then it can't continue once it starts.
I have found over the years, before the format changed in 2008, that this is a group of people who are willing to share knowledge, themselves, their goods and that we create a good experience for most people, most of the time.

Good story! It's nice to hear something positive ... hasn't been enough of that lately for many of us!

I look forward to seeing what you do with it!

First - Great story, and my hat off to whomever this individual was........ Good to know there are people like that still around. And that some of theme are right here:)

Second - If I may ask, how is the job front? Even if you don't say, I hope things have since looked up:)

Cheers!
