:biggrin:I wanted to take the opportunity to thank all of you for responding a few days ago the Inclusivity..You all helped me get an A- Hooray for You and Me! This class is about words and how we hear them..how do men hear? How do women hear? How do native people hear? Since there was a large response, you can read for yourself how inclusivity was heard by members who identified as men on a male identified internet forum. Now that my paper is done I will tell you what others brought to class. On a woman identified forum, when being asked by an identifed woman, the term guy was not considered universal. 69% said Yuck, who wants to be a guy? Some hated, some were middle of the road and some said who give's a rats ass. When women were asked face to face by a woman who they knew well and felt comfortable talking with, the vast majority saiid they cringe. They tell men they are not guys. The women in this last group were women 40-82..they were the strongest haters of the guy terminology. They were the ones who battled to get an education and fight their way to "the top" They fought to be known as Mary Smith NOT Mrs Wally Woodworker...When younger women were asked they acknowledged that the term is used very heavily and tho they felt a tad uncomfortable, they also used it...So , I hope those of you who responded and have read this post, have stuff to mull over and I din't bore you too much...Next week we discuss the term Disability..being disabled I am very interested to learn about that. I have learned so much, I wish I could have taken this course back in the wagon train days....

I for one don't appreciate how you went about this. Did you read the comment left by our founder and site owner? I would seriously hope you would reconsider doing something like this again.

Not to start another thread that goes down the wrong path, but I have to agree with Rob... you would have gotten the same information had you been straight and honest with your initial post and just told us what you were doing..

I also have to agree a different approach would have yeilded the same results I am sure. That thread almost smelled of troll.

I can't help but wonder, if terminology and identification is so important to you, why you hide behind a cloak..?

For your member info, you do not list your name.
For your location, not even the country you live in...but have listed 'wilderness'.

If you prefer to list no truth or factual information about yourself, how can you possibly expect to recieve valid information pertaining to any type question you may pose to an open forum..?

Just my thoughts IMHO.

In my days of doing research, we were always instructed by the professor to have disclosure with those you are conducting the research on and their consent. You may have gotten the results you were looking for, but I don't believe you would have passed the IRB with your approach. It was also not appreciated as it created some major disharmony in this community. Please conduct your "research" elsewhere in the future.

I should think an apology would be better received than mere thanks.
I am the forgiving type and happy to move on, but I think we would just like to know, why the need for deception; why not just be up front? This is a great group and willing to help in any way we can, but you know, most folks don't like to feel like they were manipulated, and I think that is the way this came across, whether intentional or not.

Every university/college that I am aware of has an office known as the IRB (Institutional Review Board). The purpose of the IRB is to ensure that any research involving human beings, whether the research is biomedical or behavioral, is approved by the institution before the study is undertaken.

I am fairly certain that you're little "research study" was not approved by your institution's IRB.

Not only was your study conducted out of the boundaries of sound research design . . . but, it was also highly unethical. In case you don't get it . . . you violated the trust of your fellow IAP members. You even offended the owner of IAP. Think back, how many times have you seen Jeff actually slap somebody's wrists in public?

Then, after making matters worse, you come back to gloat about the fact that you received an "A" for your "study".

I suggest you rethink your ethics before you head out on your next little venture of studying people with disabilities. They certainly deserve more respect than you have demonstrated with the members of IAP.

I, for one, don't believe any of it. You've posted the same protest about "you guys" many times before. You got called on it a few days ago, and immediately posted the "inclusivity" thread -- within about 5 minutes time. Then, suddenly, it was for a college course. Sorry, but I don't buy any of it. Even if your story is true, I join those who think it is tactless for you to stir up such a contrived debate.

this is a prime example of how great forums go bad.....
you have violated the trust of the members...
you dont even have the BALLS to Identify yourself....

I will Personally Basnish you and will no longer communicate with you....

You are the Weakest Link.....Good Bye!

I'm pretty sure he meant balls, but that would never make one of Mickr's posts, since he's politically correct.

Hey GUYS, you can add him to your ignore list like I just did under your user CP, so you never have to see a post from this guy again. Technology is a wonderful thing.

While I don't agree how he went about this and echo all the previous posts here... it sure has been entertaining watching this unfold, and this GUY (- hey I don't know his name. Mick I suppose, but who knows) self-implode

Yeah, I was being sarcastic...

I think I'm actually just going to block His/Her/ It's posts, Research my keester !!!I've never done this before I think it not a good thing, but since I've seen no apology come from this person, I'd rather not see any more posts by Him/Her/It.

I really don't see how more and more pile ons regarding this topic is going to further what we are all here for so I am locking this thread. If you want to "gump" this person, that is your business and you can do so under your user CP or by clicking on the person's name you wish to ignore, then clicking on the user list button in the line just below their name. Then choose ignore this user and you will be happy and the forum will run smoother.
