We Will Not Forget!!! The Memories are still as vivid today as they were on that day. May all those that lost their lives not only on that day but from subsequent actions such as working on the pile, RIP. I have shown this scrollsawn piece I did shortly after the incident and I will continue to show it here every year after. We all know where we were on that day. I am sure there are members here that may have direct connections to this event and this becomes a hard day to get through but the world is with you.

I was playing golf with my son in law in Georgia. He was stationed there with the Air Force. We finished the front nine and saw a bit of what was going on when we went to the club house. Never really thought much of it, I guess we didn't put 2 x 2 together. We finished the back nine and returned to the club house only to witness the rest of the story along with everyone else. He looked at me and said these words (which I'll never forget), "I gotta go right now". He left for the middle east 5 days later. He was gone for 6 months before I saw him again. Still brings tears to my eyes to think of what he went through during his 9 deployments, what his family went through and what my granddaughters went through. Twenty four and a half years of his life he served our country. I only hope this is a reminder to all who read this. God Bless America and our Troops who sacrifice so much to keep us safe!

Wolf Creek, I can understand what you are saying. My father was in the USAAF during WWII. If I recall, he was gone for 47 months and never saw his family in that time.

Woodchipper, the USAAF were truly some of biggest heros of the WW2....the 100th Air wing (B17'S) suffered the highest losses of ANY unit of any of the services. There is a 7 part series on Apple + TV called Masters of the Air.....it is similar to Band of Brothers....also made by Steven Spielberg.

Wolf...your SIL is a true hero and must be an awesome guy...never heard of 9 deployments before.
