I use a chuck similar to that on my micro metal lathe --

Would not use it on the wood lathe because the grip is limited -- works fine for machining Al with a short cantilever.

Based on a friend's (incorrect) advice, my first chuck when I got my lathe was a three jaw. Bad news. They are machinists chucks and will not hold wood properly. The labeling in that ad is incorrect and misleading.
Four jaw only way to go.
