I would like to thank the IAP the folks that ran the Summer Extravaganza and the sponsors of prizes for making this contest possible.

This pen has a beautiful piece of stabilized and dyed red Black Ash Burl. I soaked this wood for 4 or 5 weeks and let the color really get down into it. Then I scalloped with black and white pick guard. This was my old method of scalloping, I now have a new method that will blow your socks off. I still cannot find one of the socks I lost in the basement  More to come on that in another post it is much more accurate.

That is a gorgeous pen, Mike.
I just love the sharpness & clarity of those scallops & that blank is awesome!
I can't wait to see your new techniques.

Came across this old thread and wondered how it's done. Love the contrast of the wood with the black white veneer? Nice one, certainly intriguing and quite simplistic and stunning.
Wow that is an oldie for sure. Mike was one of our big contributors when it came to segmenting. To learn how just look up scallops in the library or if you want to read some threads on this just type that in the search mode. Plenty of topics to read but it is scallop making basically. good luck.

If you want to see detailed videos on scallop making i highly suggest Gabe Castro on YouTube. His channel is Exoticwoodpens. He also had a website at exoticwoodpens.com good luck.
