Pick a contest or contest you would like to run. Pretty Wood pen has a lot of entries normally.
Then we will need to get the rules made up, Time Frame for cut off of entries, and other details.
Post them this thread for review. I would like to Publish them for public review by Friday the 15th.
I will need you to forward the email address you would like the entries forwarded to. We have all entries submitted through IAP and forwarded to your contest and a copy goes to me. That way I can verify entries that are received and it really helps for follow up on Prizes.

You can, just update the days/dates for this year. You can tweak it as you like. Paul, we can see if anyone else has a preference and then choose one if you like.

This will hopefully be a great year, we need it. I am really looking forward to this years bash.
Here are my planned rules for the Kitless contest, basically copied from last year. If anyone sees an issue or has an idea or comment, let me know.
@mredburn Is this still the correct email address, Kitless@penturners.org ,which you will then redirect to me?

Once again it's my honour to host the 17th Birthday Bash

Kitless Contest

In addition to the rules laid out here, all IAP "Universal Contest Rules" apply. You can find them and read them Here.

The Kitless contest, is here to push your abilities to the edge. The spirit of the contest is to leave the restrictions of purchased parts behind and break open your creativity.

Your kitless entry may be any style writing implement. Fountain pen, ballpoint pen, pencilā€¦ā€¦etc. That is for you to decide.

There are no restrictions on tools or techniques or raw materials. Everything is allowed as long as you are the one doing the work. Even CNC and 3D printing is permitted, as long as you are the one who created the drawing, the files and the code to create the part. Any material or blank may be used as long as you identify where it came from. In other words, you can use a custom poured pen blank, as long as you identify who it came from.

You are encouraged to make as many of the parts for your entry as possible. It is understood, that some parts, require such specialized skills and machinery, that it is only practical to purchase them commercially. These include the following

  • Fountain pen triplet (nib, feed and housing)
  • Ball point twist or click mechanism.
  • Fountain pen converters, sacs or pressure bars.
  • Ballpoint and Rollerball refills
  • Metal tubing
  • Any required springs

Although I strongly urge everyone to try making there own, I have decided to allow commercial clips to be used.

Only if you really have to.
However, you should identify it as a commercial clip.

All other components must be produced by you. No parts, other than those listed above, may cannibalized from either pen kits or commercial pens.

At the time of voting, it will be highly stressed, that your entries be judged based on
  • Creativity
  • Design
  • Fit and Finish
  • And of course, looks. We all like a pretty pen!
All entries must be new creations. This means, that they have never been displayed, discussed or previewed in any forum, social media or exposition. If you have any questions or doubt about your entries qualification, please feel free to contact me.

To Enter:

Submit your entry by email to: "Kitless@penturners.org" and include the following with your entry:

  • Name, IAP Username, email address,
  • A short statement that clearly explains what YOU did to make the pen. Any special features should be explained to ensure they don't get overlooked by the voters. Also identify any parts and materials not created by you such as custom pen blanks.
  • 3 pictures of your pen
    • Consider a photograph size of 800 x 600 as ideal. The contest chair reserves the right to resize photographs or slightly crop them to achieve a consistent image size.
    • You may use a, commercially available, clear plastic pen stand as a prop.
    • No other props are allowed.
    • Use a single-colored, plain background. The color and intensity of the background affects the highlights of your pen. The background should let your pen stand out, not interfere with it.
    • No montages, watermarks, or any other identifying marks that might reveal the identity of the maker.
Contest entries will be accepted beginning on February 1, 2021 and will be open until Saturday the 20th, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST

Entries will be limited to a maximum of 2 per member.

Do not post your entry in this thread

Prizes:

First ā€“ TBD
Second - TBD
Third - TBD

If you have any questions you may post them here or PM me.

Good Luck.

With the addition of the IAP Collection contest (fantastic idea by the way), I am going to add a rule that specifically states the entry can only appear in one contest. I know should be obvious, but I think its good to state it. I am sure there will be enough for both.

If its ok with the group, I would like to propose an additional contest, to fill the gap between the slimline and the kitless. I would like to bring back and Advanced Kit contests with the following rules.
Please let me know your thoughts.
@mredburn is it ok to use the email for the old Advanced contest as I have it here?

Advanced Kit Rules
In addition to the rules laid out here, all IAP "Universal Contest Rules" apply.
Just to clarify, entries cannot simultaneously appear in other contests.

The Advanced Kit contest, is here to begin pushing your abilities . The spirit of the contest is to begin leaving the restrictions of purchased parts behind and break open your creativity. This contest is not about the blank, there are other contests for that. This is about the design and construction.

Your advanced kit entry may be any style writing implement, with the exception of the Slimline (there is already a contest for that). Fountain pen, ballpoint pen, pencilā€¦ā€¦etc. That is for you to decide.

The only restrictions on tools, techniques or raw materials when building your entry, is that there will be no use of CNC or 3D printing. All replacement components must be made by the entrant. Any artisan material or blank may be used as long as you identify and give credit to the maker.
You are encouraged to make as many of the parts for your entry as possible within the following
  1. You MUST eliminate or replace a minimum of 2 components
  2. You MUST use a minimum of 2 components from the chosen kit
  3. Replacement components must be made by the entrant.
  4. Brass tubes, refills, FP nib (triplet), ink converters, & springs do NOT count as components within the scope of this contest.

To Enter:

Submit your entry by email to: "Advanced.Kit@penturners.org" and include the following with your entry:
  • Name, IAP Username, email address,
  • Identify the base kit used,
  • A short statement that clearly explains what YOU did to make the pen. Any special features should be explained to ensure they don't get overlooked by the voters. Also identify any parts and materials not created by you such as custom pen blanks.

Im moving them now. Ok Im not moving them. I can move the entire thread but not a single post. I need everyone to copy and paste their contests in either the Casual conversation forum or under the Activities Manager forum. I can edit them as needed in either.

Jeff Is working on a new way to submit entries directly to your message center. There would be a form for each contest that would be filled out.
Member name, real name, email address, Description of the entry, and Pictures. (1-3) When they hit submit, it Immediately goes to your Message center. It also can send it by email and it automatically replies to the sender that you have recieved their entry. We are working on how to get the photos from the message center to the voting poll thread.

I will check your contest rules but other than what I have listed above is there anything you think you need in the form for your contest?

I'm not sure what rabbit hole I went down, but I found this. I never knew of any notification there was a 2021 BASH planning thread... Just a FYI for the future to let folks know.

Anyway, I'll catch up on the previous discussions tomorrow.

Since we are using the Forms for entries then we need to change our entry method in the rules. We need to remove the referenced emails.
