Entries will be accepted in four categories:
Fountain Pen • Casting • Segmenting • Open Class
Fountain Pen • Casting • Segmenting • Open Class
Fountain Pen: Any style of fountain pen made with any type of material or blank from any source. All styles of pen and modes of manufacture will be accepted as long as the resulting pen appears to be, and functions as, a fountain pen. Pens without an ink reservoir, such as a dip pen, will not be allowed in this category. Some purchased hardware is allowed, such as clips, nibs, feeds, etc. Fountain pens must have been made by the individual entering the pen.
Casting: Any and all pens where any amount of casting of some type of polymer compound is used in the making of the pen, including color or mixed color casts, clear casts, items or materials inside or mixed in with the casting material, and hybrid casts where the casting material is only a part of the material the pen is made from. The casting must be performed by the individual making the pen.
Segmenting: Any style of pen made with a segmented blank, which is a blank made by combining smaller pieces of material to form a larger whole. This may include segments, which is defined as smaller pieces of material, either similar or varied in shape, combined in some manner to create a whole blank. It may also include laminations, which is the combination of lengths of material in a linear pattern, to create a whole blank. Not accepted this year in this category are inlays, which is the insetting of thin pieces of material into the surface of a whole blank, although full-depth inserts, extending completely through the blank, will be allowed. Segmented blanks must have been made by the individual entering the pen.
Open Class: Any and all pens produced from any material. Pens can be any shape, style, size, weight or produced by any means or method of work, but must be made by the individual submitting the pen, and should be able to write. Any kit or no kit may be used. Any material may be used. Any method of production may be used. Pens must have been made by the individual entering the pen.
