Hello All,

I have two questions I hope you can help me with:

1. Why use Alumalite instead of PR?

2. What are you all using to color your castings? And where from?

Thanks,
Steve

The answer to both of your questions is as simple as hitting the search button. Those questions have been answered to death on here. Just do a quick search. Good luck.

I am a big fan of Alumilite so by bias may show here:)

Alumilite advantages:
-2 part resin requires equal parts of A and B. You do not have to adjust the catalyst based on quantity cast, temp, or anything else. No drops to count
-Virtually no odor...will not stink up your shop or house like PR.
-Less brittle...will not crack if you drop it on the floor and you do not have to worry about rounding the edges of the blank to keep from getting the shattered glass effect
-Cures in 15 minutes.
-Not considered hazardous material...can be shipped in any quantity without extra fees
-Non-Toxic
-Made in USA

Alumilite dis-advantages
-Cost...it runs about $55/gallon if you buy in quantity
-Some people have a harder time getting a super shine on the finished blank

PR Advantages
-Cost $28-30 gallon in quantity
-Easy to get...can get it anywhere

PR Disadvantages
-Considered toxic material
-Have to adjust the amount of catalyst based on thickness of cast, temp, humidity, etc.
-VERY smelly. Will stink up your entire shop
-Brittle
-Can take a while to cure

I know there are others for each list and I have tried to be as fair as possible. Obviously I prefer Alumilite even thought it is more expensive. I just feel it is a MUCH better resin and better costs more usually.
