Great job, Randy - welcome to the firehose of pen information! Keep that first pen, then revisit it in a year or so and see how much you progress!

Hey Randy,
Welcome. I have no intention of coming across harsh, but your picture is out of focus, not that my photography is anything to write home about (it's not). Anyways, keep at it. Try a Cigar Pen. You might find them easier to turn and learn from. And of course, the more you spend and experiment and learn, the more you are sucked in to this "hell". Have fun, and share some more.

Welcome from San Francisco. Have fun, it is a constant learning experience. Where did you take the class? Craigs list in your area often has good lathes for sale. Check out Lincoln, I have seen several for sale there.

Good looking pen. Don't be discouged by the employees at woodcraft. There are good and bad. I ran into the same problem here. Some salespeople will stop and help/teach you. Others seem like they just want to make the sell.

I can see where the shape went, and it's a good blank for a gold kit. Welcome to the beast! Enjoy it, and maybe sell a few when the opportunity arises. Keep that 1st pen!!!!
