Hate to ruin it for everyone, but chatoyance is a coined term combining two frequent elements here on the IAP forums....

chat (frequent posters) & 'oyance (shortened for annoyance)

so the definition is twofold:
1) the frequent irritating posting of drivel designed to run up posting totals, or
2) the posting of distractions that are off-topic to the original posted thread

An example of definition #1 is this particular reply. :D
An example of definition #2 is any reference in any thread that mentions Cav's spelling, Ed's spelling, defense of a particular paper towel, etc.

Brian,

Your definition is not bad, but your examples are terrible.

I'll have you know that every word I have said (regarding paper towels) is vital knowledge.

My other posts,,,,,,,,wwweeellllllll,,........

Quite correct ..

Definition 1 = CAV
Definition 2 = ED

or is that reversed .. hrmmmmmmmmm

So hard to decide around here you know. Given that they both are rather friendly and lovable most of the time,(rather like stray cats)we could just call it a tie and determine that the definition stands for ChatOyance as posted above and put both of their photos in the IAP dictionary next to it.
Of course there may be other definitions that are more fitting ..

I won! I won! I never thought I was going to win this trivia contest. I'm so excited. I'd like to thank the academy, and my Mom, and most of all, the admin folks and all the volunteers who put on this shindig. And of course the folks who are volunteering all this great stuff. I hope I didn't forget anyone. Thanks to all of you.
