Had 11 cub scouts over today for a pen turning event in my shop. Would not have survived without Jerry Sambrook and Padre. Two lathes and four hours saw 12 pens made by the scouts. I have to get the paperwork in order for them to get their AAW Youth Turning program diplomas. Jerry brought a four legged friend who kept the kids who were not turning distracted.

That must be a record, 11 scouts and no first aid. Call Guinness!

Sounds like quite a day.

Could have used the Guiness afterwards, if I drank.

Seriously, the kids were very well behaved as well. (Almost thought Neil might have been in the area.)
Kudos to the parents and pack leader for the kids reactions and behavior.

Oh yeah, and to Eric for his as well:eek::biggrin:

Now that is a "Special" treat. What a wonderful idea and outstandingly brave men. Thank you and congratulations.

That must have been a lot of fun!!!

11 is quite a handful to have at one time but i bet they all had a great time!!

Great work in helping them to get a badge!!

Nice!

When I was a scout leader, all I could do was photography. I hadn't touched so much as a jigsaw at that point in my life. I'd love to get the kids on a lathe nowadays!

This day and age I think I would of had the parents sign a waiver before they even walked through the doors. ;) It's good to hear of kids working with their hand though instead of busy texting.

Wouldn't that be considered working with their hands too?

:wink::wink::wink:

Thank you for showing the cub scouts a good time! I was once a cub scout leader (couldn't run away quickly enough...), but what a joy to teach kids to work with their hands!

What about the rules...No picture didn't happen...Beat they really enjoyed it...My Grandson has a blast when he stops by to turn..

Hopefully I will get some photos from the parents, I was too busy with the kids at the lathe to take any pictures.

One of the benefits of the AAW is that affiliated chapters can host events like this with the insurance of the national organization. In my case, the Central CT Woodturners voted to sponsor the AAW Youth Turning program at my shop.
