Believe it or not, we got some snow last night! This was the first snow we have had that actually accumulated here in 10 years! As a result of the snow "storm" all schools and government offices are closed along with about 1/2 of private businesses! I'm telling you, when us Central Texans get snow, everything closes down!

It is all mostly gone now but it was fun while it lasted! My 5 year old daughter sure enjoyed her first snow! We got to go out and have a snowball fight. Sure was fun!

Curtis come up to the Great Northern Illinois we got 14.3" of snow!!!!!!!!!! you can throw snow balls till you are blue in the face that is if you don't freeze tonight-9 with wind chill -25 to -30 below degrees right now 22 degrees

I enjoyed it also. My wife's work had a 2 hour delay. When she started to work she slid right through the 1st stop sign and couldn't drive over 15 mph. She came home and said the hell with it. Her work ended up shutting down for the whole day (a hugh insurance company). We lived in Chicago for 10 years but you can't fight "ice".

This is mind boggling being from the east coast and laughable. Drive carefully and maybe there will be a run on 4wheel drives and snowplows next year.

My wife has some customers that ship out of Laredo. They told her I-35 was iced over and closed down there. This snow stuff is starting to mess with her ability to support my habits, and I aint happy.

So far a total of 14 inches over the last 4 days and more to come. The temps haven't been over 15 degrees in 4 days. Can get to the shop but would need a shovel to clear the door. Almost lost my shop pal in the snow.

With you there Roy. Got a good solid 12" in the city but a lot of it is drifted up to 24" or more. Got stuck 3 times on the street in front of my house. This year is definitely making me wish I had a 4 wheel drive truck.

Curtis, I hope you took some pictures, because your daughter is not going to see this 'til she is about 16 or 18 years of age and then maybe if we get the snow down here again. Mine only got to see her first snow when we went to her aunt in Santa Fe and the poor thing didn't know what to do when she first saw it, but now she is in Boston, and she can't stand the cold much.

We got 1" of snow and a nice glazing of ice last night in Round Rock which is 50 miles north of Curtis. The low this week was 14 degrees. The other extreme was a high of 103 degrees last summer recorded by my back yard weather station. This week was the coldest week I have seen in Central Texas in 11 years. I spent most of my life with much colder winters where snow and ice are the norm so South Central Texas has been a nice change. Still had to work using my Blackberry and laptop from home which is not unusual either.

We were supposed to get 1"-3" of snow last night but thanks to a temperature inversion all we got was about 5 hours of freezing rain. Made for a nice commute this morning for those that couldn't stay home. Curtis the local weather man accused San Antonio of stealing our snow. I'm glad San Antonio got to have it so you and your daughter could spend time having that snowball fight. I bet that was fun.

I'm right on Clear Lake. Last couple days everyone was talking about the big snow storm coming. City hall shut down, all schools closed, people cleaning out the stores for food.. We got no snow LOL Ice all around. Last few years we got a little snow. My Daughter and I would go out and write the year on the car windows for record LOL

I know this would not make some of you even blink but for north Texas, it is a big deal.....ice since Tuesday, snow overnight.....driving the car because the truck is too light in the back end and I forgot to go buy the bags of sand I usually buy. This was about 6am. We had a bobcat clearing the parking lot all day.

Curtis,
The most important thing about that snow was the snowball time with your daughter. Snow will come and go but memories are forever!

We got well over 6" in Castle Rock. Nothing like being out at 6am on a Sunday morning shoveling... Sigh.

The reason you Texans wimp out with snow is your road maintenance isn't set up to deal with it. And I doubt many of the residents have proper snow tires either.

Curtis, I have 2 ft on the roof thats being shoveled as I put this in, gladly ship it to you TX boys

It was 42 at 6:30 when I got up this morning here. I just went out on the porch for a smoke and watched a humming bird feed at out feeder. Weird winter.

DANG we get a foot of snow up here and we still have to go to school!

Pretty weird if you ask me usually this time of year we have about 3-4 feet of snow on the ground (on an average year) but its been so warm lately we got about a foot and a half of ice. And it seems that everyone back east is getting dumped on with snow.

John, you got to share the blessing. Now next winter you guys get all the snow and every one else would wonder about it back east. And, south, we'd just hang around in shorts down here.

I had to do a double take on that first photo... thought you had tied a flag to his tail so you could see him in the snow...:eek:turned out to be the faucet and hose sticking out of the snow...:biggrin::biggrin:

I've been gone from Texas a out 5 1/2 years now, but in '89 we had a nice little snow fall in Houston... took me nearly an hour to get from Humble through the airport to the other side where my office was... Only people who showed up for work that day lived in Humble, Montgomery, Conroe and the other outlying towns... the locals around the office all called in "snowed in"... my problem was, I was driving the son's car, not enough antifreeze in the engine and wound up blowing the radiator on the way home.

BTW, it's 34 at my house, clear and sunny.

If you'd like a little more...I could ship some!
