wood species

Hello fellows, Would you please indentify this wood for me. As a novice I really like the tight cell fibers of this wood. As you can see I am making two stem vases but I really like the way it behaves when turning on my small lathe. I would appreciate any help. Thank You Sammy

I picked this one from the pass it forward box #3. :smile: It is marked with a ?.:confused: It looks like Maple but appears heavier and darker in colour than Maple. Any ideas?
