Some of you may remember I cast some pretty cool pen blanks a couple months ago that were made with lightly dyed alumilite resin and some drill worms. I was quite disappointed with that experiment, because when I turned the blanks down to the diameter needed for whatever kit I was using, I also turned away most of the drill worms in the blank. I thought that would be the end of that line of experimenting.
Then David Bondi (@d_bondi) suggested that a bespoke pen might look interesting with a drill worm blank since you don't turn off as much of the blank for a Bespoke pen.
Well, I cast a couple more drill worm blanks and made a bespoke pen. See Pics below.
NOTE: I left the outer diameter of the pen cap and barrel the same as the blank (i.e. I did not turn it down. I only drilled out the cap with a 12.2mm drill, and the barrel with a 9mm drill. I did turn down the section, and it still looks kind of cool. You can see from the pics that the cap lost a lot of the character of the blank, but the barrel stayed looking decent. There are some blisters on the blank (residual air bubbles).
I believe I have exhausted my options for this experiment, and will find other cool pen things to work on
This first picture has the original blank on top, and the semi-completed bespoke pen on the bottom.
