The red oak used in this pen was salvaged from the running boards of a 1924 American LaFrance fire engine. The wood was turned on a lathe and finished with a water-based amber dye. To give it an aged appearance, I applied soot from a burned stick, then protected the wood with Doctor's Woodshop Pens Plus finish. I designed the graphic and casting was done by Michelle Bagley. The background was generated using AI.

American LaFrance entered the motorized fire apparatus industry in 1903 with the introduction of one of the first successful gasoline-powered fire engines in the United States.
