Just found this site and joined just a bit ago. Thought I'd share some pens I did last summer. Done a lot more since then. Plan to be exploiting your expertise on all things related to pen turning. These are all PSI kits.

3 Pens:
Designer - Angelique
Polaris - White oak from a wine barrel from Frogs Tooth winery, a local one around here. I think the Polaris kit has been discontinued.
Filibella - Sapele

4 Celtic Pens - Celtic kits in Antique Pewter and Antique Brass.
Left to right - Walnut, Cherry, Dillashaw Oak (scraps from a local flooring guy that did our floor), not stained, and Black Locust.

I'm very glad to have found you all and hope to be conversatin' soon.

Welcome aboard Casey, glad to have you. I know Murphy's/Angels Camp very well. I lived in Valley Springs for 22 years before retiring and used to visit Kautz frequently with family guests. Very nice looking pens.

Welcome and complements on the very nice pens. Never heard of Dillashaw Oak. Please explain.
Dillishaw Oak - The Dillishaws are a local family, been around here for a long time, fingers in everything. One of the boys is in the flooring business. He did our flooring 5 years ago. We had a new fireplace insert installed last year and the installers dropped it and damaged 2 of the floor boards. Heavy insert. Dillishaw finally got the OK from the fireplace people to redo the flooring. As they were leaving I asked if he had any scraps I could have for turning pens. He said he'd check. Next week he shows up with 5 boards, all 3/4" x 4" tongue & groove oak. I took them, cut them into blanks, and turned them. I still have a lot left. It's nothing more than basic oak but the story behind it is pretty cool and is what matters. I mean how many pens/blanks are from flooring. I think it's pretty neat.

He's also married into a family that has a local winery. They took out one of their vineyards so I asked him if he could get me some of their vines, I thought I might turn them as well. Week later I had 3 big vines sitting on my front porch. I want to stabilize them and then turn them. I don't know how they will turn out but to have some pens from a local winery/family is pretty cool.

I also got a couple of wine barrels from another local winery, Frogs Tooth. I cut them, they make great planters, and used the middle section for pen blanks. I cut the barrels a bit short so I could get a good 5"-6" length of the middle of the staves. They turn pretty well and when turning smell like the wine they held. Again, nothing more than basic French oak but the story is the deal.

Casey Welcome from down the hill in. Livermore.
Used to live in Fremont. Coached football at Irvington and Washington. Coached against Livermore and Granada a couple of times. Also coached at Dougherty Valley. I also hiked the Sunol-Del Valle trail with Boy Scouts, beautiful valley and overall area. I loved the downtown scene, used to be our go-to for Friday afternoon appetizers and dining sometimes.

We're up Hwy 4 just behind the Red Apple. We love going to the concerts at Ironstone/Kautz and also at Brice Station. Love living up here in woods. Nice to meet you kind sir.
