I'm slowly getting my feet wet with Fusion 360 for my 3D printer to help me design items for my shop. Up to now, I have relied on other members of IAP or the various websites out there to pull pre-designed files for things I can use in the shop, but as I progress, this ran out of steam.

If you have a 3D printer or not, the Gridfinity system is a pretty cool way to organize draws, tool boxes, or work areas. Here is a link to a pretty good description of the system, its components and how to print it Gridfinity .

In essence the system is a base unit with standardized sizing that you print (or buy pre-made). The base is the bottom of the system and is a 3D printed grid that interlocks with the organizer components. You then print or purchase any of a zillion different items to place on the grid to bring organization to your area. Very high density with good capabilities to organize pretty much anything.

If you have a 3D printer, lots of STL files are available to print pretty much a wide variety of things. BUT, if you really want to get down the rabbit hole, download the free Fusion 360 CAD software from Autocad and the Gridfinity plug in available on the Fusion website store - also free - and you can easily design custom holders and components for the system, making custom holders for tons of stuff pretty easily. The Gridfinity plug-in then allows you to save it as an STL file and export it to your 3D printer. Fire up the printer and you shortly have a new obsession - and you will look cool with all your organized draws and workspace!

Have fun!

Thank you for your post. I have in the past month really become interested in 3D printing for myself, although I have been looking at it for two or three years. I am still not there yet, and I know there are tons of STL items, but even as I look at items, My mind runs to custom size, hole, deviation etc. Thanks for this thread!

I am printing a gridfinity set of 10x10 outer boxes as I am typing this.,..well 5 actually. They are for small parts storage in my home hardware storage....they have an outer shroud and inner box and lid....several on Makerworld right now....
They take a ton of filament tho!!

That plugin for generating gridfinity bases and basic containers and shapes is game-changing. I have a growing amount of drawers in my house that are organized with custom gridfinity solutions.

I did kinda warn you that this was addicting!! Agreed on the plug-in - it truly is pretty amazing. I was on the fence about upgrading my 3D printer from my original purchased printer, but when I started down the Fusion 360 / Gridfinity route, it made the decision way easier. I got lucky and found a Bambu P2S at a store close by and made the purchase, so setting it up now. First project? A Gridfinity Ruler! Ruler STL

You are going to LOVE the Bambu Labs printer. Did you get it with the AMS?
I did! I'd been watching for stock of the printer in places within an hour or so drive from my house and was pretty much convinced that I needed to trek into Brooklyn, NY (about 90 minutes away and ~$40 in tolls!) to get one when the BestBuy by me suddenly came up with one! Snatched it up! We are supposed to get a crazy bad snowstorm on Sunday here, so I made sure it wasn't damaged in shipping after getting it home and put it aside to be my 'snowy day' project. Hoping it will be cranking away on stuff by Monday afternoon.

That is awesome and a great snow day project!

I love that you can dry filament in the AMS. After getting used to it, I really like the Bambu Studio software.
