I'm trying to evaluate this 2006 Silverado I'm looking at buying, and since these things are old and prone to rust, I need to understand what I'm getting into before I commit to a really long drive. The guy selling it sent me a few shots of the frame, and even though it's got some rust I'm not sure how bad it is. It's more than I want to see, but is it bad enough to just say no altogether?

If possible, check the brake lines and gas line. Prone to failure due to corrosion along the frame rails. Ask me how I know!
That's nothing.
You can see through the sides of the wheel wells on my 2004 Ram. 130,000 and still runs great.
IMHO, that doesn't seem too bad for a 20 year old truck from Ohio from those photos. Take it to a shop and pay for an inspection to get an assessment. Some elbow grease and rust inhibitor can go a long way as long as the rust is not structural.
I would skip it. My question would be regarding rust in the body. Born in Ohio and salt played heck on metal.

Thanks for the replies everyone. So far the geneal opinion I've gotten is that this amount of rust is tolerable, but more poking around needs to be done.

Where all else should I ask for pictures to check for more rust? I know these trucks rust in characteristic spots, just not sure where those are.

I have a'03 Avalanche, no rocker panels, solid floor, gas filler mounts rusted, wheel wells shot, replaced brake and gas lines after a Oooops crash, 136K and still runs like it's supposed to. Love the truck! Good Luck, they are overall really good work horses.
