My take on Sputnik Urchin Ornaments

Everyone has probably seen the classic Sputnik urchin ornaments of Cindy drozda or Ashley Harwood. I decided to do something different.

I turned some maple disks which fit inside the urchin, they have a tenon which fits into a turned button. The buttons are made from some exotic material I got from isaacrapelje.

I hand painted the maple disks.



Here's a picture of a couple of the buttons.

They look very nice. How do you display them? I have a bunch of these along with the Urchin shells that I was at one time suppose o make for ornaments.

So for display, I would just hang them from one of the limbs of the Christmas tree. I use a swivel spinner for fishing, which makes them easier to hang. I suppose if you just wanted to show one, you could use a curved ornament stand or something like that.
