Hi folks,

I searched the forum and the internet and couldn't find any reviews or mentions of the Meisternibs flex #6 steel nibs. Has anyone tried these? I'm guessing they will perform similar to an Omniflex nib, and will be more of a soft nib than actual flex, but curious if any one can share their experience with these nibs.

Thanks,
Leo

Meisternibs is an authorized/official reseller of JOWO nibs for the US. Brian doesn't do any tuning of the nibs he resells himself; that's your job if you feel it's needed.
I have no idea how they compare to Omniflex nibs. Nib tuning is an art; there are people who do that for a living.

Thanks, and sorry if I have implied otherwise, I assure you I have a great respect and admiration of nibmeisters. I know that he's an official retailer for JOWO, I just don't recall having seen this particular flex nib elsewhere, and many other mass produced flex nibs are not really flex nibs, but rather soft-ish. I have tried many but not this particular one. The performance in this regard wouldn't be a reflection on Brian, and tuning the nib in the traditional sense wouldn't have any impact on how the flex performs, which is the part I meant to ask about.

Ah I see what appears to be the same nib listed there as "soft," but still curious if anyone has tried it. Not expecting anything magical for $23. I am in the US however, so would likely order from Meisternibs or another vendor and have nib modifications done on this side of the pond.

Some other flex nib providers I know of are The Good Blue, Blue Dew, FPR and Kanwrite. I also know a few nibmeisters that will make/sell custom nibs or pens with custom nibs. I believe Santini Italia may sell a spare nib without a pen also, but I'm not sure if you have to have purchased a pen from them first. The Santini Superflexy was still a bit stiff for my taste.

Another petty good flex nib is the Magna Carta Mag600/Mag650. I have the 650 but the feed doesn't keep up. The owner said he was going to send me a new feed but I haven't received it yet. I don't believe they sell individual nibs, but perhaps Meisternibs will get some eventually as I have seen #8 MC nibs there. At the Chicago Pen show I tried a Mag 600 that was tuned by Les (of Stylosuite), and it was one of the best flex mods I have tried, however he doesn't work on other people's pens/nibs, only sells pens he has tuned/done grinds on. He also had some other nice flex mods. I had my 650 tuned by Matt Chen, but it still railroads a bit due to the feed.

I believe Kirk Speer also made some well reviewed flex nibs but I don't see these for sale currently at Pen Realm. The FPR 14k nib I have heard is really good, but I have only tried their steel flex nib, which is ok, but I never was able to get the feed set well in a pen that wasn't an FPR pen, though I haven't tried in a few years. The noodlers flex nib is not good in my opinion, though it can be modified with a dremel or files to be more flexible (essentially carve it to look like an FPR flex nib).

I'm sure there are more. I was just curious about the one at Meisternibs since I was likely going to order some other nibs there anyway.

I've had customers who were very happy with them. In fact they wanted four more of them for other pens in their collection. Brian is a great guy too

I had a Nib Meister tell me when I asked about tuning nibs. He said almost all Jowo nibs don't need tuning and that almost all Bock nibs need tuning. I supply Steel and Gold tone Jowo's and Cypress nibs (dual tone) with my fountain pens.

I bought 3 to have in stock, and tried one of them. It was a lot stiffer than I expected for a "flex" or even "semi-flex", I had to press quite heavily to get even a slight spread.

I can recommend an Indian artisan named Sanjay Ramaswamy. I bought some flex that he customized and the nibs have very interesting behavior, handmade ebonite feeder with very generous flow.
You can find him on Instagram sanjayflexnib
