I had the great honor and privilege of giving a presentation on wood and hand-turned wood pens at the quarterly meeting of the Southern California Pen Collectors Club. I was able to share part of my collection as well. Many thanks to the members of this group who have turned pens for me and much appreciation for this group, which is a font of knowledge. Most of the club members primarily collect vintage and modern branded fountain pens, whose barrels can be made of everything from wood to ebonite to metal to celluloid and more. Still, I found the members quite interested in the craftsmanship of hand-turned rollerball pens and in the art of Mother Nature represented by the burls and curls and spalt and chatoyance and figure in the often obscure woods I collect. They had great questions I hope I answered accurately, and I learned a thing or two or three as well.
