Creative fixes

Sometimes you have to think outside the box and get creative to find a fix. I had an issue with a couple of my drill bits and it took me awhile to realize it wasn't something I was doing. Long story short,the hole for the section was too big to accept it. This pen was a flop, until we filled the cavity with more Alumilite and redrilled all the internals. We got a tiny white accent ring and we saved a beautiful blank from the trash.

It's the old adage, it's not whether or not you make mistakes, but how well you cover them up.

I agree with Don, beautiful blank that makes a beautiful pen. The white rings make a nice compliment to the rest of the pen.

Many years ago I was working my first sunburst veneer round table. I made a mistake and sanded through the crossbanding. Distraught, I turned to a mentor. His response was "We all make mistakes, the difference between and amateur and pro is how well the correction is done". He also followed up with "you know the correct thing to do".

Wow, nice save! That looks like it was planned. I've seen some beautiful designs come from mistakes. Plan B pens, I call them.

The thing I like about recoveries is that the solution makes the result unique. Even if you tried to duplicate this, it just wouldn't be the same. Nice job and a beautiful result.
