I fully endorse getting into casting. Honestly, it probably won't save you any money in the long run but you'll be able to make custom colors and hybrids very easily. I use a modified paint pressure-pot from harbor freight - if you've got an air compressor the pot would be the only other thing you're need to do what I do.

Yes, the best thing I did was to get him started on cordless tools that use a different battery platform than mine, but if it has a cord or is a hand tool I'm afraid it is destined to wind up out at his place.
