I had no luck with the cuttingboards. Holes inside the wood. Wood blow out when drilling. Worked well for knives handles. But i just tried one board.

Some boards are plain and some have intense, wild contrasting grain

Good idea. I have used maple from a cutting board that the wife put in the dishwasher and fell apart (the cutting board, not the wife).

This Home Goods olive wood thing is the best. All these awesome blanks and they end up being a dollar each or less. Last time I bought two and the cashier actually asked me what I was going to do with them. I said "I'm going to chop them up into small pieces and make pens out of them." She looked unimpressed
