Years ago I helped clear out my Grandfather's shop after he passed. He taught me to turn bowls. So, I GUESS I graduated backwards to pens. In the process of cleaning I acquired an American Chestnut board. My Grandpa had four children including my Father. I happened upon the board about a month ago and decided to make some things for them. It has been a few years since I shared anything.

Very beautiful. Such nice, rare wood. I've seen a few bowls made out of reclaimed American Chestnut.

Very nice, the first pic with just a single pen what kit is that ? don't think I seen one like it, at least not in Canada.
Zen. The cap is magnetic
Looks very similar to the Magnetic Vertex rollerball/fountain pen kits. The Vertex have longer nibs and a longer finial, but they also have the magnetic trait and hexagonal design.

Beautiful. Just finished a number of double seam rippers for my sister to give to members of her quilters club. I like the style of the barrel very much. The elongated center portion and the wire burns. Will keep that in mind for the future.

I think it is similar. My understanding is the Zen is a bit fatter.

Very nice and great remembrances. One comment, I personally find pen turning more difficult than bowl turning. Much more attention to detail and smaller pieces to work with. All hand work is great IMO. You're doing great and I'm sure your grandpa would be pleased.

Nice work!

In case anyone isn't familiar, the American Chestnut is virtually extinct, though the Japanese Chestnut is still surviving because it is more disease resistant. You can't buy this wood anywhere, so the items Hewunch made have a story to go with them, and might be considered premium by some buyers.

Here is a better pic of the Zen. At least, I think it is better.

And in reference to Todd, thank you for pointing that out. I included information with the items to my Dad's sisters about this very fact.

Also, the blank the pen is resting on is for me ;)
