I know I said I was done with hempwood, but I had to try again. This is a Gatsby Grande in chrome and gunmetal from PSI. The blank is clear stabilized hempwood from Bullseye Turning Supply. I took very, very light cuts with it, which is difficult for me. I'm normally an impatient aggressive turner. But I'm glad I did, this blank is no less than spectacular! I love the grain patterns in it. (I know it's not actually "grain", but you know what I mean.)

You can tell how light the cuts were by the fine shavings. Almost like powder. I did have a few minor chipouts, but was able to finish it successfully. The finish is Pens Plus.

I absolutely do. The end result from impatience is that it takes longer, if not ruined completely.

I can see where this would have taken plenty of patience. And a very sharp skew. I feel like a carbide blade would not be as effective on this stuff, but can't say I have any experience with either.

I use carbide almost exclusively, on all materials.

I used Carbide and it worked. Not sharpened carbide- sharp new carbide.
 
A friend of mine really likes this pen. Since she and her husband are moving to Tennessee this year, I engraved it for her.
