This is my first time using wood on a pen. Feel free to provide feedback or critiques. I'm always looking to improve.

Looks great. I'm surprised the antler is as smooth as it is. Most of the North American species of antler I've seen is very porous. Nice job on the pen!
Antler really depends on where in the antler tine section you are using. If you use antler that is closer to the final diameter for the pen kit, you are far less likely to have an open/porous finished blank.

Correct. I used one of the tines for this pen. There is an oval shape towards the top of the antler on the bottom picture - that part is actually the outer portion of the antler.

That's true. Sometimes it's tough to get that perfect straight piece the right size. The Axis Deer has easier antlers to work with IMHO. I have seen some turners fill the voids in porous antler and made a nice pen. Not wanting to start another conversation here but I noticed the original author like your reply so I commented. Thanks to all replies.
