Yew used for a pen.

Gallant pen kit from penkitsmall. The yew i got from a neighbour was dry enough to test it on a pen.
I cut a 50 pond piece to blanks and let them dry for 5 months now.

Beautiful pen and great looking wood. I really like the color shades in the wood. I cut down yew bushes in our yard two years ago and save some large branches. I've made a couple of pens now and with I would have saved more!
 
Very nice piece of yew . Might crack though if not completely dry . Had one given to me years ago which developed a crack after about 18 months sitting in a drawer. My climate is a lot drier than the coastal one where it was made , and it was Pacific yew , so those differences may mean you won`t have a problem .
 
Beautiful piece of timber. You did well with it. I've had ONE piece of Yew in twelve years. My last search for it was disappointing. Nothing!

Love the color and grain.
 
A word of caution....every part of the yew is toxic. That being said I have turned several pens from it and am currently cutting blanks from a 6" caliper upright yew that my neighbor cut down. No adverse reactions to date. Some of the blanks have grain patterns to die for.
